Vision is built on a geospatial foundation — meaning location-awareness is structural, not a feature layered on top — and that distinction matters for how its capabilities are described. The platform is available as a complete solution at a single price, not as modules; framing it otherwise misrepresents how providers actually buy and use it. 1. What Vision Is
What is Vision Software?
Vision is a complete, all-in-one OSS/BSS (Operations and Business Support System) built for regional broadband providers. It combines network management, subscriber billing, CRM, workflow automation, field operations, marketing, and reporting in a single platform — available for a single price.
The system is built on a geospatial foundation: every subscriber, service, asset, and ticket is anchored to a verified point on the map. That location-first architecture is what connects the operational and business sides of a provider into one coherent picture.
What does "all-in-one" actually mean?
It means the core modules — billing, CRM, ticketing, inventory, scheduling, marketing, network monitoring, and reporting — share the same location-based data. A record entered in one part of the system is immediately available across the rest of it. There's no re-entry, no syncing between platforms, and no separate tool needed to connect operational data to billing data.
What does "geospatial foundation" mean in practice?
Every service location in Vision is a unique, verified point on the map — standardized against GPS and USPS data to prevent duplicates. Everything stacks on that point: who lives there, what services are available, what hardware is installed, what work has been done, and what the network looks like upstream. When a subscriber moves out and a new one moves in, the location record and its history stay intact. Teams can look at any address and see the full picture without hunting across systems.
What is meant by "single pane of glass"?
It's how Vision's CIO, Josh Johnson, describes the platform: a unified interface where network plant records, monitoring data, subscriber accounts, billing, and active workflows are all visible in one place. The goal is that a team member should never need to open a second system to understand what's happening at a service address.
What are Vision's four core principles?
Vision's development is guided by four pillars:
Location-based: Every record is anchored to a verified geographic point. Geospatial awareness drives service availability, routing, reporting, and automation.
Process-based: Structured workflows define how work moves through the system. Every operational process — from install to disconnect to delinquency — runs on a configurable template.
Automated: Task functions execute background actions (provisioning, notifications, billing adjustments, integrations) without human intervention, so teams focus on work that actually needs them.
All-in-one: Billing, CRM, ticketing, inventory, scheduling, marketing, and network monitoring live in one platform with shared data.
2. Who Vision Is Built For
What type of provider is Vision designed for?
Vision is built for regional broadband providers — fiber cooperatives, municipal broadband operations, rural cooperatives expanding into broadband services, and independent operators. These are providers building and running their own networks, managing their own subscriber relationships, and needing a system that connects those two sides of the business.
Does Vision support network types other than fiber?
Yes. Vision supports multiple network technologies including fiber, fixed wireless, coax, and hybrid deployments. Providers running mixed-technology networks can manage all of it within the same system.
What kind of provider gets the most out of Vision?
Two things tend to determine fit more than size or network type.
The first is process appetite. Vision is built around structured, configurable workflows — and getting the most out of it means being willing to define how your operation runs and commit to working that way consistently. That's a real organizational shift for teams that have relied on institutional knowledge and informal processes. It takes engagement, especially early on. Vision's implementation team helps providers make that transition, but the appetite for change has to be there.
The second is a willingness to treat location data as infrastructure. Vision's geospatial foundation only delivers its full value when address and plant data are kept accurate and current. Providers don't need perfect GIS data on day one — Vision's team can help build, via our sister company Fibersmith Engineering, and clean that foundation over time — but providers who treat location data as an afterthought won't get the same return from the platform as those who invest in it.
Is Vision a good fit for a provider just starting out?
Yes. Providers early in their buildout can begin with basic subscriber and address data and add layers — GIS plant records, network hardware integrations, marketing automation — as operations mature. Vision's implementation team can assist with data import, workflow setup, and go-live readiness regardless of where a provider starts.
Is Vision a good fit for a provider migrating from another platform?

3. What Makes Vision Different
How is Vision different from other OSS/BSS platforms?
Most telecom software is built around people. Subscriber records are the foundation, and everything else — billing, inventory, service logic — ties back to an account. That model creates a specific kind of operational friction: when customers move, accounts disconnect from reality. When hardware is assigned to a name instead of a place, answering a basic question about what's at a service address requires chasing it across systems — maps, network records, account history — often ending in spreadsheets or tribal knowledge.
Vision was built around a different foundation: the location. Service happens at a place, not just to a person. When a subscriber calls about a service issue, the team can immediately see the address on the map, what equipment is installed there, what the upstream network looks like, whether there's an active network event affecting the area, and the full account and ticket history — all without switching systems or running queries. When an outage occurs, Vision can automatically identify every affected subscriber at the impacted segment, open or escalate tickets, and send notifications — because the system already knows which subscribers sit downstream of which network element.
Does Vision model the physical network?
Yes. Vision supports a digital twin of the physical network — the actual fiber plant, circuits, equipment, and topology. Circuit records connect to service addresses, so the system understands which subscribers are served by which physical path. This is used for predictive light level monitoring, outage impact analysis, and real-time troubleshooting — not just billing lookups.
What's the pricing model?
Vision is available at a single price that covers the full platform. It is not sold in modules or tiers.
4. Platform Capabilities
How do workflows work in Vision?
When most OSS/BSS vendors say "workflows," they mean a way to route tasks between people — essentially a queue with assignments. Vision's workflows go further: they're configurable process templates where each step can carry its own logic, data capture, branching conditions, and automated system actions. A single step can assign work to a team member, capture field data, provision network hardware, send a notification, or trigger an action in an external system — all without manual handoff.
Vision uses the same workflow logic to power every operational process: installs, disconnects, upgrades, troubleshooting, delinquency handling, marketing campaigns, and more. Each process runs as its own distinct workflow, but they're all built and behave the same way — which is why the system is self-documenting. Every step, decision, and outcome is logged automatically without separate documentation effort.
Can we build workflows ourselves, or does everything require Fibersmith?
Workflows are built using a drag-and-drop no-code interface that doesn't require developer access. Providers can create, edit, and version their own workflows through the GUI. Fibersmith provides starter templates based on discovery of each provider's business practices, and providers evolve those templates over time. New versions of a workflow don't disrupt in-progress work.
Can workflows integrate directly with network hardware?
Yes. Vision's workflow logic connects directly to supported network hardware, so provisioning, deprovisioning, and configuration changes can happen as automated steps within a workflow rather than requiring a separate system or manual action. Can workflows trigger external system actions?
Yes. Vision includes a webhook task function that can send and receive API requests to third-party systems as steps within a workflow. Configuring it requires some technical familiarity with APIs, but it doesn't require involvement from Fibersmith's development team — providers with technical staff can set it up themselves through the GUI. This means a workflow can trigger actions in external platforms, pass or receive data, and branch based on the response.
How does Vision handle service availability — which plans show up for which addresses?
Vision uses geofenced service areas — defined polygons on the map that can be drawn on the map or imported in via kml, kmz, geojson, shp or zipped shapefiles — to control what's available where. When a customer enters their address, the system checks which service areas that address falls within and displays only the options available there. Pricing, eligibility, and promotions can all differ by service area, so customers only ever see what they can actually receive. Service areas do a lot more than just control selling behavior — they're used throughout the platform for routing, reporting, marketing, and operations.
Does Vision support an online shopping cart?
Yes. Vision includes a public-facing shopping cart — hosted by Fibersmith and branded to the provider's identity — where customers enter their address, see available services, select a package, apply promo or referral codes, schedule their installation, and complete signup. The cart connects directly to Vision's availability and workflow systems, so everything a customer does in the cart is immediately reflected in the internal system.
Can Vision support demand aggregation for areas not yet built out?
Yes. Providers can define service areas for addresses where infrastructure doesn't exist yet and set up interest-capture pages tied to those areas. Prospective subscribers can sign up to indicate interest, the system tracks goal progress by service area, and providers can use that demand data to inform build decisions. Interest records can also trigger automated communication campaigns without any manual list management.
5. Integrations and Ecosystem
What systems does Vision integrate with natively?
Vision integrates with a broad and growing set of platforms. Several integrations are built directly into Vision: Google Maps, Smarty (address verification), Tower Coverage (fixed wireless coverage mapping), the US Census Bureau, and Wolters Kluwer (tax calculation). For all other supported integrations, Vision doesn't charge an additional connection fee — providers just need an existing relationship with that vendor.
The categories below cover the most common integration types.
Network hardware integrations allow Vision to provision, deprovision, and monitor devices as automated steps within workflows — so a technician completing an install can trigger provisioning without logging into a separate vendor system, and monitoring data like light levels surfaces alongside subscriber and billing records in the same view.
GIS and mapping integrations feed the location layer that everything else in Vision runs on — service availability, plant records, outage impact analysis, and circuit-to-subscriber mapping all depend on accurate GIS data being accessible within the platform.
Payment gateway integrations handle tokenized payment processing for invoicing, autopay enrollment, and subscriber portal payments — cardholder data is never stored in Vision.
Communications and direct mail integrations power outbound SMS and direct mail for workflows, marketing campaigns, and delinquency notifications.
Performance monitoring integrations pull network health data into Vision so it's visible alongside operational records rather than requiring a separate login.

What if we use a system that's not on that list?
For systems Vision doesn't have a native integration with, providers can use the webhook task function to build a custom connection to any platform that has an API endpoint. Those connections run as steps inside workflows, so they behave the same way as any other automated action in the system. Vision's native integration library continues to grow — and the webhook covers the gaps in the meantime.
How does Vision decide which native integrations to build?
Vision prioritizes integrations that have broad value across the provider ecosystem — tools many providers already use or will need. Niche or highly specific integrations that would benefit only a small subset of providers are typically handled through the webhook path rather than native build. This keeps the platform clean and extensible without creating a long tail of rarely-used connectors that require ongoing maintenance.
Can we keep using our existing GIS platform?
Yes. Vision connects to a range of GIS platforms, so providers can continue working with the tools they already have. For providers who want deep outside plant records and splicing capability and don't already have a GIS platform, 3-GIS is available as part of a Vision purchase. Is Vision cloud-hosted or self-hosted?
Vision is a cloud-native SaaS platform with data hosted in U.S.-based data centers. All infrastructure maintenance, updates, and deployment is handled by the Vision team. Providers don't manage servers, handle upgrades, or coordinate maintenance windows.
6. Billing and Revenue Management
How does Vision handle billing?
Billing is embedded in the platform. Invoices are generated automatically based on active services and billing cycles — including one-time charges, recurring charges, and prorated adjustments. Vision supports anniversary billing (each customer bills from their signup date, creating steady cash flow) and can handle multiple billing cycles simultaneously during migrations. Invoices are produced as branded PDFs and can be emailed directly or printed via integrated partners.
Does Vision support pre-paid and post-paid billing?
Yes. Vision supports both pre-paid and post-paid models, with tokenized payment processing through a range of supported payment gateways.
Does Vision handle taxes automatically?
Yes. Vision includes a built-in tax engine using the Wolters Kluwer CCH tax data model, with calculation at the zip-plus-four level for jurisdictional accuracy. The system calculates and applies taxes to invoices and generates reports for remittance. Tax remittance itself is handled externally.
Can Vision handle MDU or enterprise billing?
Yes. MDUs are modeled with each unit as a distinct service location under a parent property. Vision can generate consolidated invoices for a property owner or individual invoices per unit. Business accounts can receive consolidated billing across multiple service locations under a single account.
Can Vision automate delinquency and suspension?
Yes. The delinquency process is workflow-driven and fully configurable by customer type, service, amount owed, or geographic area. The system can trigger payment reminders, courtesy call tasks, and ultimately a VLAN switch that routes the subscriber to a payment-only page without full disconnection. Upon payment, service is automatically restored without manual intervention. A branded quick-payment link allows suspended subscribers to pay with minimal friction.
Can we track regional pricing or grant-area offers separately?
Yes. Service availability and pricing are tied to geofenced service areas, so offers, packages, and messaging can differ by area — including BEAD-eligible areas, grant-funded territories, MDU properties, or specific neighborhoods. These differences are handled within the platform without workarounds.
Can Vision export financial data for use in my accounting system?
Yes. Financial data — invoices, payments, credits — can be exported via CSV or accessed directly through Vision's public API for use with external accounting tools or a data lake. During setup, billing categories can be mapped to a provider's existing account structure to make that export process cleaner.
7. Field Operations and Inventory
Does Vision handle inventory management?
Yes. Vision tracks serialized inventory across warehouses, field vehicles, and technicians. Assets link to service locations and subscriber accounts, so the system always knows where equipment is and what it's doing. Movements are recorded as team members update equipment status through the system.
Is there a mobile app for field technicians?
Yes. Vision offers native iOS and Android apps for field technicians. The app supports on-site ticket updates, equipment scanning, service-area-based scheduling, map-based job views, and offline capability for areas with limited connectivity. Technicians see their assigned work, nearby jobs, and active service areas directly on the map.
Is there a contractor portal?
Yes. Contractors can be granted limited access to view assigned tickets and workflows, update progress, and coordinate timing via the provider's calendar — without requiring full tenant access. Equipment checked out to contractors can also be tracked through the warehouse module.
How does Vision handle scheduling and dispatch?
Vision's scheduling system is resource-based and tied to the same service-area data used throughout the platform — time slots are defined by event type, geographic area, and technician or equipment availability. Workflows pull from available slots automatically, and customers can self-schedule install appointments through the subscriber portal. Resources (technicians, equipment like bucket trucks or fiber plows) can each have their own availability zones, so dispatch reflects who and what is actually available in a given area.
8. Customer Experience
What can subscribers do in the self-service portal?
Subscribers can view and pay invoices, manage recurring payments, view payment receipts, manage their contact information, view current services, schedule install appointments from available slots, and manage referral codes. The portal is mobile-first, branded to the provider's identity, and connects directly to the same data the internal team uses — actions taken in the portal are immediately reflected in the back office.
Can subscribers submit and track support tickets through the portal?
Yes, though this is a provider-configurable setting. Providers can choose whether to enable subscriber ticket submission and visibility through the portal, as well as self-troubleshooting workflows. Some providers prefer to keep ticket management internal; others use the portal to reduce inbound call volume. The capability is there either way.
Can a single account manage multiple service locations?
Yes. A single subscriber login can manage multiple service locations — useful for businesses with multiple sites or residential customers with more than one property.
Can Vision run a referral program?
Yes. Each subscriber receives a unique referral code and QR code that tracks new signups automatically. Referral codes work alongside promo codes in the shopping cart. Usage is tracked and reportable.
How does Vision handle marketing campaigns?
Vision's marketing engine uses the same address and availability data as operations, which means campaigns are automatically filtered to addresses where the network can actually support service — no separate list management. Communication channels include group SMS (with read receipt tracking), email (with open and click tracking), and direct mail postcards. Campaigns run on the same workflow logic as operational processes, so automation and sequencing work the same way.
Vision also includes a built-in door-to-door sales interface for providers who run in-person canvassing teams. Reps can see real-time service eligibility for a given address, view which homes in their territory are already customers, log leads on the spot for follow-up, and check whether a location has had service before.
9. Reporting and Data
What reporting does Vision provide out of the box?
Vision provides dashboards and downloadable reports covering subscribers, services, revenue, billing, marketing performance, network events, and inventory — all filterable by service area, tag, date range, or geographic shape drawn on the map. Spatial filtering applies across virtually all report types. Dashboards are customizable per user so each team member sees what's relevant to their role.
Can Vision data be used with external BI tools like Power BI or Looker Studio?
Yes. Most reports can be exported to CSV, and Vision's public API returns data in JSON format — so data can be pulled into Power BI, Looker Studio, custom data lakes, or any other analytics environment a provider is already using. The built-in reporting covers the vast majority of what providers need day to day; the API handles more advanced or custom analysis beyond that.
Can Vision generate regulatory reports?
Yes. Vision includes a BDC (Broadband Data Collection) export builder that produces mapped and formatted data ready for FCC submission, as well as support for 499 reporting and Universal Service Fund (USF) requirements. Vision prepares the data; the provider handles submission to the FCC.
Can reports be scheduled or automated?
Yes. Saved report templates can be scheduled to run automatically and deliver results by email to selected users.
10. Implementation and Support
How long does implementation take?
Implementation typically runs 60 to 120 days, depending on data complexity, the number of legacy systems being replaced, and the provider's internal readiness. Each implementation is led by a Vision team that works directly with the provider's team on data import, workflow configuration, and go-live preparation.
What does implementation include?
Migration is a shared effort between Vision's implementation team and the provider's team. Vision assists with transferring subscriber, billing, and service records from legacy systems and helps identify and correct data issues along the way. But a meaningful amount of the work falls to the provider: reconciling conflicting records, verifying address data, and confirming details that only someone inside the operation would know. The pace of migration reflects how directly engaged the provider's team is — the more involved they are, the faster and cleaner the process moves.
Implementation also includes modeling the provider's actual business operations into Vision's workflows, which takes real effort on the provider's side. Vision's team can't build an accurate workflow for a process they don't understand — so providers need to be able to walk through and document how their operation actually runs, step by step, so that process can be modeled accurately into the system. The clearer a provider can articulate their existing operations, the smoother this part of implementation goes.
Can a provider start without complete GIS data?
Yes. Providers can begin with basic address data and add GIS layers — plant records, fiber routes, splicing data — later. This approach is common when plant data is still being digitized or when a provider is migrating from a system without GIS records.
How often does Vision release updates?
Vision follows a rapid release cycle, typically shipping updates every couple of weeks. Updates are deployed automatically as a cloud-native SaaS platform, so there's no manual installation or maintenance window for providers to manage. Release notes are published within our support site and made available to clients.
How is support handled?
Vision clients have access to dedicated support channels during Vision standard business hours, with a separate escalation path available for emergencies and customer-affecting issues outside those hours. 11. Security and Compliance
How is Vision secured?
Vision follows SOC 2, PCI, and CPNI guidelines. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. The platform uses role-based access control, and user and system actions are logged automatically for compliance and operational review.
Where is Vision data hosted?
Vision is a cloud-native SaaS platform with data hosted in U.S.-based data centers.
Does Vision support single sign-on or multi-factor authentication?
Yes. Vision supports single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) for platform access.
How are payment credentials handled?
Payment data is tokenized through Vision's supported payment gateway integrations. Cardholder data is never stored directly in Vision.
Can contractors or external users access Vision securely?
Yes. Contractors are assigned limited accounts via the contractor portal or tenant-specific roles with restricted permissions. The contractor portal provides external teams with access to the work assigned to them without exposing the broader system.
